An LCPL file downloaded from the Internet Archive (protected with LCP DRM 1.0) can be converted into a DRM-free PDF or ePub by following the guide below.
1. Download LCPL to Full EPUB/PDF via Thorium Reader
LCPL files are secured by LCP DRM and require an LCP-compatible reader—such as Thorium Reader—to open and download the eBook content. Follow these steps to convert LCPL to LCPDF:
Step 1Download LCPL File from the Internet Archive Website
Navigate to your borrowed books, and under the download options, select either LCP PDF or LCP ePub. After clicking, you will receive a .lcpl file.
Step 2Download and Install Thorium Reader
You can find Thorium Reader on the official website.
Step 3Launch Thorium Reader and Import Your LCPL File
Simply drag and drop the LCPL file into the Thorium Reader interface, and the app will automatically start downloading the corresponding file.
Step 4Save the Downloaded Dile as EPUB or LCPDF
After the download completes, click the three dots on the lower right corner of the book cover and select "Save As" > " OK".
Your file will be saved either as an EPUB or LCPDF, depending on the format of the original content.
Make sure you can open the LCPL file in Thorium Reader and that you have the correct passphrase to access the content. Simply double-click the book cover—Thorium will prompt you to enter the passphrase to view the file.
2. How to Remove DRM from the Downloaded EPUB or PDF
Even after downloading, LCPDF and EPUB files remain protected by LCP DRM. To fully convert them into standard PDF and EPUB files, you will need to use the Sososofty Archive Mate tool to remove the LCP DRM protection.
Step 1Download and Install Sososofty Archive Mate

Step 2Enter the Correct Passphrase
Open Sososofty Archive Mate, click the Passphrase button to enter the correct passphrase, which is used to decrypt LCPL files. Then click "OK" to save the passphrases.
Tip: If you have multiple passphrases or recently updated it, enter each one line by line to ensure the correct one is used.
Step 3Remove LCP DRM Protection
Locate and add your LCPDF or EPUB files to the program. Click “Start Conversion” to begin the DRM removal process.
Once the download is complete, a green checkmark will confirm the success. You can then click the checkmark or the "Open" button at the top of the program to view your now-unlocked PDF or EPUB file.
